Abstract

Background. The study of the basic characteristics of the flora minimum range is necessary to develop methodological approaches. The minimum number of species that characterizes a flora is the value by which any researcher should be guided.
Materials and methods. In the research there were used some parameters of the flora family range. 96 floristic descriptions of the data base FD SUR served as the information basis.
Results. The proposed approach (usage of parameters of the flora family range of the minimum range) is one of the criteria to identify the species number for the minimum range of elementary flora. The research shows the minimum quantitative threshold of the species composition of the flora in Samara Zavolzhye (forest-steppe zone).
Conclusions. The list of flora in the minimum range consisting of more than 700 species provides a fairly complete portrait of the elementary flora of the territory. For the four examined zones there has been registered a full match in the composition of the top ten families of the flora in comparison with the physiographic spectrum of the river Sok area, which reflects climatic conditions and a specific character of this landscape area. At the same time the top four leading families (Asteraceae-Poaceae-Fabaceae-Rosaceae) coincide in location. The presence of monotypic families in the flora varies in the range of 28–35 %. The top ten leading families contain 61–62 % of the species composition. The index of the family popularity for the minimum range of flora should be at least 14.

Key words
